Redefining what it means to be an athlete

TAP helps athletes build the support they need to thrive

When was the last time playing your sport felt free and easy?

When did you last feel truly connected to your teammates?

Do you want to use your sport to make more of a difference in the world, but don’t know how?

We know that sport can bridge divides, create joy, improve health and ultimately change the world. But too often it ends up having the opposite effect.

We understand why this happens, and exist to change the way sport is practiced and lived at all levels.

"TAP opened my eyes to how much we all care and can help each other achieve"

Olympic Gold Medallist, Rowing

Find your mentor

For over ten years we have run transformational mentoring programmes that help young athletes to find their place in their sport and the world.

TAP mentees gain personalised, caring and unbiased support from a current or former elite athlete who has experienced many of the highs and lows that sport has to offer alongside workshops from our team to explore identity, values, purpose, resilience, creativity, and their relationship with their sport.

Many tell us that mentoring provides the kind of support that is hard to find in their sport, because it is focused on them as a person and not on their performance.

Previous Mentoring Pairs

Souleyman Bah

The first ever athlete on our mentoring program, Souley came to us as a 16-year old sprinter. Due to a degenerative eye condition from birth, he was unable to see out of his right eye and only had limited vision in his left.

We paired Souley with the world’s fastest blind sprinter and Olympic gold medallist, David Brown.

Through the programme, Souley developed a regular meditation and visualisation practice, achieved a personal best 100m time, started a university degree and set up his own organisation called 2020 Vision.

He has spoken to over 100 schools – inspiring school children in his area to overcome adversity, and appeared on The Apprentice.

Souley is our inspiration, while his experience reminds us every day of what sport and good people can achieve.

“I may not have sight, but I have vision.”

Chelsea Hudson

Is a professional athlete dedicated to promoting mental wellbeing in sport. Through TAP’s programs, Ursa learned strategies to manage pressure and perform at her best. Her journey demonstrates how TAP empowers athletes to thrive both on and off the field.

Scarlett Lane

Tully Kearney is a Paralympic gold medallist in swimming and a graduate of our Powered by Purpose programme, which supports athletes to engage in more meaningful, authentic, and sustainable social impact activities.

Tully discovered how powerful frame-running could be for children with disabilities that felt excluded. She fundraised for a frame-runner for Leo, totally changing Leo’s life, who now moves and plays with other children.

Tully is determined that no child should be more than an hour from a frame-running club.

Become a mentor

Becoming a mentor means joining a community of inspiring, determined and compassionate peers and supporting a young athlete as they navigate the complicated, challenging and ever-changing spectrum of life, family, performance and who they want to become.

Mentors receive significant support from us to support their development as a mentor and a person, and are eligible for professional mentoring and coaching accreditation (in partnership with the EMCC).
